Mike brings over 15 years of experience in engineering and product development from his work at Toshiba, Sharp, Bose, and Motorola. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, and both the Master’s and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. At MIT he did research at MIT’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in robotics, CAD, computational geometry, and design for manufacturing. Mike was among the first MIT students sent to Japan through the MIT Japan Program. He has since lived and worked in Japan for over five years and is proficient in Japanese. At Bose he was the engineering manager for the Bose Design Center, an interdisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and UI specialists. At Motorola he was engineering lead for Motorola’s Advanced Concepts Group where among other things he was responsible for developing new interface technologies for mobile handsets, including haptics & morphing. More recently he led an engineering team in Japan tasked with finding and developing new technologies for next-generation mobile communication devices at Motorola’s Tokyo office.
