Matthew I. Growney
Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Matthew has become a well-known and successful investor for both his understanding of new technologies as well as his ability to build compelling new businesses for the commercial marketplace. In October 2007, he launched Rudyard Partners, a private equity firm, as an investment vehicle to create and deliver new consumer products and businesses to both mass market and specialized users alike. His areas of interest promote the creation of the most compelling user experience. Whether on a device or a network, Matthew explores technologies that implement or integrate content and software so that consumer expectations with new innovations can be surpassed. He is focused on the monetization of old and new media and its interface with various combinations of bits and atoms. Matthew is also Founder & CEO of Isabella Products, a revolutionary new consumer electronics company that will be launching its first product, Vizit™, in 2009.
Prior to creating Rudyard Partners, Matthew was Co-Founder & Managing Director of Motorola Ventures (MV), the corporate venture capital arm of Motorola, Inc. Matthew was directly responsible for building investment offices in Boston, Silicon Valley, Tel Aviv, and Beijing. He co-managed a $350M portfolio of 70+ companies. Matthew created the investment program in 1997 and established it as one of the premier corporate venture practices in the world. He developed MV’s investment thesis around monetizing both strategic and financial returns. He focused on emerging networks (3G, 4G, Wireline, Cable), new media, mobile devices, Web 2.0, enterprise software, and material science. He was responsible for making investments in innovative companies like E Ink, A123, Xanboo, Airclic, Cedarpoint Communications, Snaptrack, Camero, Ocean Broadband, and Netomat. He has also served on both the Investment Committee and the Board of Directors for Shanghai NewMargin Ventures, one of the leading domestic venture capital firms in China.
Matthew serves on the Board of Advisors for Sigma Capital Partners, a specialized private equity firm in New York. He is also a Board Advisor to Collective IQ, a corporate venturing firm in Atlanta focused on providing Fortune 2000 companies with strategic investment advisory and business development services.
Matthew serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship in New England, a non-for-profit focused on developing entrepreneurship criteria for low-income high school students. He is also involved with the Ad Hoc Technology Committee for the Boston Children’s Museum. In November 2005, Matthew was named one of Boston’s “40 under 40″ by the Boston Business Journal for his professional achievement and community contributions in New England. He has been a featured speaker around the world and contributed to several books both on innovation and venture capital. Matthew graduated from Michigan State University (BA), where he serves on the Board of the Center for Venture Capital, Private Equity, & Entrepreneurial Finance at the Broad School of Business, and the New England School of Law (JD). He has also studied Software at Harvard University and Civil Law with Loyola University- New Orleans in Costa Rica. Matthew is fluent in French, speaks Japanese, and is learning Mandarin.
